FAQ

1. What will my child learn during this program?

Your child will have specially designed training drills and games to maximize their skills. They will also participate in real competitive game environments during our program. Soccer is a great sport for any young athlete. It will help kids develop building blocks for teamwork and confidence they can use for any future sport of their choice.

All student athletes will be provided with pre-planned, age appropriate games and drills to use at each practice. This includes a variety of fun interactive games, simple technical drills, and general rules/tactics of soccer. The student coaches will have freedom to develop formations and tactics for their teams to use during competitive games. Student coaches will remain on the field during games to direct the players and make sure they are continually learning, staying safe and having fun.

2. What kind of equipment does my child need?

Please have your child wear shin guards, soccer cleats or tennis shoes. You will need a size 4 soccer ball and water at each event. Our program will provide team shirts only.

3. How long is this program?

The program will last 4 weeks, from mid July to mid August. The program runs twice a week with practice sessions on Mondays and games on Wednesdays. A full schedule can be downloaded in the 'event' section of our website.

4. How old does my child need to be to sign up?

This program is specifically geared toward children ages 4-7. If your child is age 4, 5, 6 or 7 at the time of registration, they are eligible to participate for the 2021 camp. Our hope is to add additional age groups for the 2022 camp.

5. Does my child need to have experience?

Little to no experience is required to be a part of this program.  We highly encourage kids and families that have never tried soccer before to join our program for a new and exciting experience!

6. Do parents need to stay?

Yes. This is a student led program, so we ask that parents stay in the field area for the entire duration. Parents are welcome and encouraged to observe practices and cheer their child on during games.

7. Can I request my child be placed on a team with a friend?

Yes, buddy requests are welcome. Although we cannot guarantee it, we will try to accommodate each request we receive.

8. What if my child gets injured?

Like all organized sports, injuries are possible. Soccer is not a naturally violent sport, which is what makes it an ideal activity for young children. Each event will have a qualified, trained and experienced adult supervisor on site in case of injury. Our student volunteers will do their best to maintain our program's health and safety guidelines. As part of the registration process, you will be asked to sign a waiver regarding injury.

9. Should I be concerned about Covid-19?

Our program will closely follow the guidelines put in place by the state of Minnesota regarding return to youth sports. All events will be located outdoors. All student coaches will wear masks during active sessions and will be provided with a hand sanitizer for participants to use before and after events. To promote social distancing, teams groups will be no larger than 6 children per roster. We ask that all spectators appropriately socially distance and keep your child home if they are ill.

For the safety of participants and student athlete volunteers, we ask you to keep your child home if they have any of the following symptoms: fever or chills, cough, fatigue, headache, sore throat, nausea, diarrhea, shortness of breath or loss of taste or smell.

11. Will there be make up dates due to inclement weather?

Unfortunately due to limited field time and the student volunteer schedules, we will unlikely be able to offer make up days in cases of inclement weather.

12. Will there be a refund due to weather cancellations?

All proceeds for this program go to a charitable origination, therefore all payments are non refundable.

13. Why are student athletes coaching?

Research shows that children’s peer relationships have enormous influence on their development, both physically and

mentally. Children look up to older peers, and we feel that this will help them to absorb and retain the knowledge and skills they learn during our program. Our goal is to provide all participants with a unique learning experience they can be enthusiastic about. Our program's player-coach ratio will be 6:1.

14. How are the student coaches selected?

All student athletes must fill out an application and sign a behavioral contract and complete LBSC concussion training. These applicants are then selected by the coaching staff as well as the program director based on merit.

15. What benefits are the student athlete volunteers receiving from this program?

Each student athlete that has completed this program successfully will be awarded with a certificate for 8 hours of volunteer work for their community. They will be able to use this certificate for college applications and admissions.
